Will the Patriots go 19-0?

Nobody can say that the Patriots' offseason was anything short of absolutely fantastic. They added one of the league's best receivers in Brandin Cooks to an elite passing attack, a shutdown corner in Stephon Gilmore next to a proven Malcolm Butler to beef up the secondary, added two scrappy, tough running backs in Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee to arguably the league's best offense, while continuing to make more moves that strengthened the NFL's reigning Super Bowl champs. Oh yeah, and they also kept the greatest Quarterback/coach combination in NFL history. All of this adds up to the perfect season. Why couldn't this team go 19-0? They have the talent to do so if everyone stays healthy, but that won't happen. Even if everyone was healthy in this era of the NFL, no team can go undefeated.

As of today, the Patriots are favored in every regular season game, so the oddsmakers are expecting them to go undefeated. But it doesn't work like that. Like previously noted, injuries happen, and also teams just have weeks where they are gassed from the grind of the NFL year. the Patriots will have those weeks (my guess is week 7 or 8 right before the bye) where some key players need some rest. That's when losses occur.

The Pats' schedule this year also isn't easy. A revenge game versus the Falcons, back to back road games at Denver and Oakland (played in Mexico City) appear as the real tough games this year that the Pats could struggle in. With the Falcons ready for revenge, Denver's elite defense, and a young Oakland team looking to take the next step will all be huge challenges to this year's Patriots team. not to mention every other team the Patriots play will be playing at 110% as it's essentially that team's Super Bowl when they play the league-dominating Pats.

The only part of 19-0 that is realistic is that the Pats could win the Super Bowl. They are rightly deserving favorites to win it, and their experience, talent, and consistency year-in and year-out backs that up.

At the end of the day, it's hard to complain if a team wins the Super Bowl. That's what the goal should be for the Pats, not 19-0.
